About Curl Curl

Curl Curl Beach is located on Sydney’s northern beaches between Dee Why Beach and Freshwater Beach. It is mainly frequented by locals, so it doesn’t get nearly as busy as some of its neighbouring beaches.

The beach is approximately 1.2 km long and is divided into North Curl Curl and South Curl Curl. Both ends of the beach have their own surf life saving club, car park and café/kiosk. You will also find rock pools, which are ideal if you want to swim laps or have young children who are not confident swimmers. The beaches are patrolled by lifeguards between September – April.

Curl Curl is one of Sydney’s best surfing beaches. It faces the east-southeast and averages 1.6 metre waves. If you are planning to swim at the beach, make sure you stay between the flags, as there are several rips at any one time, the most notable one being the Garbage Bowl at the southern end of the beach.

During summer, you will also find that when other beaches in the area are closed due to either rough seas or blue bottles, Curl Curl tends to stay open as it does not experience the same conditions.

Curlie is also ideal for fishing from the beach or easily accessible shore platforms, but if fishing off the rocks, watch out for unexpected waves.

Getting to Curl Curl

The easiest way to get to the beach is by car. Local residents displaying the Manly Warringah Council stickers can park free, otherwise a small hourly or daily fee is payable at the car parks. Those travelling by public transport can catch 139 from Manly Wharf – the trip takes approximately 25 minutes.

The beach has great facilities including toilets, showers, change rooms and bubblers, BBQs and a small playground at the northern end of the beach, approximately 200m from the Surf Club. Both surf clubs offer their hall for hire for weddings and special celebrations.

In the evening, the Curl Curl area makes for a lovely walk, either right on the beach or along the footpath. Take the Dee Why to Curl Curl coastal walk and enjoy some stunning beach and cliff views.

For lunch or dinner, head over to Dee Why Beach, which is only a short walk from North Curl Curl and offers some amazing cafes, restaurants and take away shops as well as two playgrounds and picnic areas.
